I decided to paint this picture partly as a tribute to those whose lives were lost last year when this volcano unexpectedly exploded. I had been fortunate enough to visit it the previous year with my family as my daughter lives in Auckland. It sent shivers through me to think we had been standing on the very site where the eruption occurred. I thought up the idea of using the wave in multi-colours although I found later on that someone else had also thought of a similar idea. It gives a different perspective rather than just a flat sea. My love of bright colours allowed me free rein here to let myself go and have some real fun.
